Originally designed by Tom Gale, the car has maintained its position as one of the top commercially-available sports cars.
The Viper model from the Dodge group falls under the category of sports cars and was introduced for the first time in 1992. The models were produced by the Chrysler Corporation during the period 1992 to 1998, by the Daimler Chrysler during the period 1998 to 2006. Presently, all the models are produced by Chrysler LLC since the model year 2008.
First generation (1992-1995)
The first Viper model, Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster was tested thoroughly in 1989 and its sales began in 1992. The heart and soul of the vehicle is its engine, designed based on the Chrysler LA model, which was an engine used for a truck. With the powerful engine mounted on the vehicle, it gains a maximum speed of up to 290 kilometers per hour. The Viper SRT 10 can accelerate from 0 to 97 kilometers per hour in a time span of just 4.6 seconds. It covers distance of a quarter mile in 13.1 sec at the speed of 180 kilometers per hour.
Second generation (1996-2002)
The second generation model was launched in the year 1996 and the company continued its production till 2002, without any modifications. The model was released under the name of GTS Coupe.

The new model came with increased power and it was faster in speed by 13 kilometers per hour when compared with the first generation model. It accelerates from 0 to 97 kilometers per hour in just 4 seconds, 0.6 seconds faster in comparison to its predecessor.
Third generation (2003-2006)
The third generation SRT10 model was introduced at the Detroit Auto Show in 2005 as a model vehicle for the year 2006. It was released in two different models - the 2-door coupe and the 2-door roadster models.
The engine used in the vehicle during this period was 8.3 liter V10 engine that produces 380 kilo watts of power at the rate of 5600 rotations per minute and 725 Nm of torque at the rate of 4200 rotations per minute. It was offered with the 6-speed manual transmission and had the wheel base of 2510 mm. The SRT10 was released as a replacement to the previous generation models.
The sports car SRT released in this generation accelerates from 0 to 97 kilo meters per in a time span of just 3.94 seconds and attains the top speed of 315 kilometers per hour. The vehicle can cover the quarter mile distance in a time span of 11.77 seconds at the speed of 123.68 miles per hour.
Fourth Generation (2008-present)
The Dodge Viper SRT10 model in 2008 was released in two different versions namely the 2-door coupe and the 2-door roadster models. The model is equipped with the 8.4 liter V10 engine that produces 450 kilo watts of power at the rate of 6000 rotations per minute and torque of 560 lb ft at the rate of 5600 rotations per minute. It was featured with TR6060 6-speed transmission.
